During the event many innovative prototypes and product samples were presented by the participant companies and research entities. The event was visited by students, professors, entrepreneurs, researchers and by the general public.

The exhibition was stuffed by modern and classical technologies, innovative products and futuristic equipments. An electronic car, a wireless glove, a smart clock and a robotic arm were just a few of the successes of the event. In one small stand there was a 3D printer quietly building a CAD model layer-by-layer, from bottom to up. The passing by visitors were amazed by the simplicity yet effective way of transforming a 3D computer model to a physical object. Today’s technological trends are the rapid prototyping machines, the 3D printers, and in the nearest future they can change our world. With these printers in mind the Third Industrial Revolution isn’t so far behind.

What kind of new technologies and surprises can bring the second edition of ForoTech in 2014? We’ll have to wait and see.

This initiative tries to take advantage of new business models and opportunities that Open Source projects can offer, including their internationalization to maximize their visibility, thanks to a cost reduction in developments and more flexibility versus propietary solutions (the code is open and can be improved or changed as needed to create updates or new tools).

Recently, basque public administration has released their applications at OpenApps, so this Open Source directory can be a good data source to populate the metada model about Open Source companies, projects and products behind the SourcePlanet aggregation platform, where other modules will consume this Linked Open Data to get different evaluations and classifications about previous entities in order to optimize the results of users searches later.

These are considered a new social phenomena. Most of us, overall engineers and computer scientists, have a last generation smart-phone in our pockets that is populated with several different apps, independently of the mobile platform (e.g. iOS, Android, Symbian or Blackberry OS). The questions that we rise (throw) are: HOW MANY OF THESE APPS ARE ACTUALLY USEFUL FOR OUR LIFES? and DO ANY OF THEM OFFER A SOCIAL CHANGE OR CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS A BETTER AND FAIRER WORLD?

If you are a creative enthusiast of mobile apps and you are concerned about conceiving a better, more sustainable and fearer world, this competition is done for you!
