Juan López de Armentia, the new MORELab's PhD

On June 28th, 2016, MORElab's member Juan López de Armentia has been honored with the PhD recognition. His dissertation, entitled "Marco decolaboración entre dispositivos inteligentes para la reducción de su consumo energético en espacios compartidos" was advisored by Dr. Diego López de Ipiña.

MORElab vision about the future of IoT on the consumer appliances sector in Automática e Instrumentación magazine

MORElab PhD students Diego Casado-Mansilla and Juan López-de-Armentia and their supervisors Diego López-de-Ipiña and Pablo Garaizar published their vision about the future of Internet of Things on the consumer appliances sector in the November edition of Automática e Instrumentación magazine. They advocate for Ecoaware Everyday Things, which are energy-efficient devices able to interact with their users to promote 'greener' behaviour among them. The article is available here.

Juan López de Armentia participated in The App Date event

Last September 30th, MORElab member Juan López de Armentia attended The App Date event in Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid. Within a connected house, it was presented a persuasive coffee-maker developed by Juan López de Armentia and Diego Casado Mansilla. It is an instance of anEcoaware Everyday Thing, which represents smart everyday objects that promote a more sustainable ICT ecosystem.

MORElab's members will lead two workshops within the e-ghost summer courses

MORElab's members will organize two courses within the 2014 e-ghost series. The courses, which are hosted by the University of Deusto, are free and open to everyone who is interested in new open hardware/software technologies and science tendencies.

Talk about Eco-aware everyday objects at Madrid's makerspace

Last May 28th, MORElab's members Juan López de Armentia y Diego Casado Mansilla gave a talk in the Madrid's makerspace about their ongoing research. They talked about the different eco-feedback strategies that they have devised and tested to aware human beings about their inefficient energy-habits in public spaces. The attendees were very proactive after the talk. Some of the questions issued were related with the effectiveness of the different provided feedback, the property of the data collected, their semantic format and the future of smart meters, to cite some.

First edition of Bilbao Sustainability Jam

MORElab members Diego Casado Mansilla, Jon Echevarría and Juan López de Armentia organized with the collaboration of the University of Deusto the first edition of Bilbao Sustainability Jam on November 22nd - 23th. The Global Sustainability Jam is a 48hr event where people come together in cities around the globe (Madrid, Tel Aviv, Berlín, Milán, Oslo, Londres, New York, San Francisco, São Paulo, Hong Kong, Barcelona, etc.) to prototype new products and services around the theme of sustainability. The attendants formed multidisciplinary groups and worked together for 2 days. The results of this edition in Bilbao have been amazing. See detailed information about the created projects here.

Invited talk in Belgium (Sustainable IoT devices)

On 18 October 2013, Dr. Diego López-de-Ipiña was invited to talk within the appsforengergy.be event. Such event debated the importance of Open Data and their analytics to undertake better energy management. The talk given by Dr. Diego López-de-Ipiña tackled the role that proactive sustainable and persuasive Linked Data generating electrical appliance may play to influence their users on a better eco-behaviour when interacting with them. This presentation was grounded in the work on the Green Social Coffee Maker carried out by the MORElab researchers Diego Casado Mansilla and Juan López-de-Armentia. Juan López de Armentia attended UbiComp 2013 Doctoral School

Last September 8th and 9th, the MORElab member Juan López de Armentia attended the UbiComp 2013 Doctoral School held in Zurich, Switzerland. He presented a poster related to its PhD, entitled "Social Collaboration of Intelligent Electrical Devices to Enhance Energy Consumption". It proposes a solution for everyday things operate more energy efficiently by means of a collaboration with each other.

What can I do with my Arduino?

Last July 11th, MORElab's members Diego Casado-Mansilla, Juan López-de-Armentia, Juan José Echevarria, Juan Sixto and Adolfo García have led and organized an Arduino Workshop within the 2013 e-ghost series which are hosted by the University of Deusto. This event aimed to present the Arduino as an open platform for easy and accessible prototyping tool to create, design and share pervasive applications from scratch.

Juan López de Armentia attended esIoT 2013

The MORElab member Juan López de Armentia attended the International Workshop on Extending Seamlessly to the Internet of Things (esIoT-2013) held in Taichung, Taiwan. He presented the paper entitled "Saving Energy through Collaborative Eco-aware Everyday Things". It provides an overview of how Internet connected objects can collaborate in order to reduce the energy consumption.

CDTI meeting of the THOFU project,

MORELab members Juan López de Armentia, Aitor Almeida and Diego López-de-Ipiña participated in the CDTI meeting of the THOFU project, held in the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Madrid (Spain). In this meeting the members of the project presented the work done during the 2011. THOFU aims to research the technologies that will make the hotel of the future possible. MORELab contributes to the project in the areas of intelligent objects, semantic middleware, embedded reasoning, resource recommendation, reality mining, sentiment analysis and Linked Open Data.

Apps for a Better World Awards

On friday, 24th, February of 2012 Morelab members Diego Casado Mansilla, Ivan Pretel and Juan López de Armentia have won an award for the best application in the Apps4BetterWorld competition with the project "Verde y Punto!". The idea behind the app is to create an incidence reporting system at registered areas in order to help improve the sustainability and resource saving through colaborative and awareness solution. The approach aims to promote a social mindset change and to contribute towards a better and fairer world.

Arduino Workshop

Morelab's members Diego Casado and Juan López de Armentia have led and organized an Arduino Workshop which was held at the University of Deusto. This event aimed to present the Arduino open platform as an easy and accessible prototyping tool to create, design and share pervasive applications within the Internet of Things, ambient intelligence and smart spaces.
