We have made public several datasets related to the political activities on social networks. The liberated datasets are:

Political party and candidate tweets for the campaing period of the 2016 Spanish general election. This dataset contains the political party and candidate tweets for the campaign period (10th to 24th of June) of the 2016 Spanish general election. Political party and candidate tweets for the campaing period of the 2015 Spanish general election. This dataset contains the political party and candidate tweets for the campaign period (4th to 18th of December) of the 2015 Spanish general election. Oscar Peña, the new MORELab's PhD

On January 26th, 2017, MORElab's member Oscar Peña has been honored with the PhD recognition. His dissertation, entitled " A Data-Driven Visual Approach to Explore Linked Open Data Environments" was advisored by Dr. Diego López de Ipiña and Dr. Unai Aguilera.

Oscar Peña presented his research advances in MTSR'15

MORElab's member Oscar Peña presented two articles on the Metadata and Semantics Research Conference 2015 (MTSR), which was held in Manchester's Metropolitan University from the 9th to the 11th of September. Both his slides are available in the following links:

The focus on coherent visualization for the Semantic Web awekened the interest of some participants of the conference, opening some great discussions about future research paths in this area.

Open Data Day 2015

On February 20, MORElab research group and the "Diploma in Data Analysis, Research and Communication" organized the Open Data Day within the University of Deusto in Donostia/San Sebastián. For the third consecutive year, this event has been celebrated in conjunction with the International Open Data Hackathon. The meeting began with the talks by Imanol Argüeso (Open Data Euskadi), Leire Bardají (EuroHelp Consulting), Jorge Campanillas (Iurismática Abogados) and Iñaki Pariente de Prada (Basque Data Protection Authority). After the talks and throughout the day, the participants worked in these three workgroups:

labman presentation in LD4KD

On September 19, 2014 the 1st LD4KD (Linked Data for Knowledge Discovery) workshop was held within the ECML/PKDD 2014 Conference in Nancy, France, in an effort to bring both Linked Data and Knowledge Discovery communities together and discuss innovative ways of taking the advantages of both areas to common causes.

The work done in labman was presented through an article which explained how Linked Open Data visualization can be used as a way to get new insights about the performance of a Research Unit, detecting topic patterns which help in designing future strategies for the group.

Other visualizations in labman display the relationship among researchers while publishing and working on projects, rendering collaboration graphs where SNA techniques are used to identify similar communities and link strengths among people.

The discussion held after the workshop addressed different paths both communities can walk together in order to get Linked Data the interest from other communities it deserves.

labman_ud beta version released

Today, MORElab is releasing a beta version of labman_ud, a web application which allows a research group manage and publish all its data. MORElab's own website is powered by labman_ud, so you can try all the features on a living example.

The code is hosted and made public in Github under a GNU GPLv3 license, and we will try to fix any error before the official v1.0 release, which we hope could be soon enough.

We will continue to improve this tool in our spare time to create a great tool for data management in your unit.

MORElab hosts the IES Cities Project Fourth Quarter Meeting (4QM) & First Project Review Meeting

From 6 to 8 May 2014, the IES Cities project’s Fourth Quarter Meeting (4QM) & First Project Review Meeting was held at the premises of the Faculty of Engineering in the University of Deusto, Billbao. Such meeting has been key to present the first release of IES Cities integrated platform and RESTful back-end and 8 new urban apps, two apps belonging to each of the 4 participating councils in the consortium, namely, Bristol, Zaragoza, Rovereto and Majadahonda. An additional app, namely IES Cities Player, developed by MORElab research group belonging to DeustoTech-INTERNET unit within DeustoTech-Deusto Institute of Technology, was also presented. Such application acts as a broker and catalyst of the urban services enabled by the IES Cities platform allowing end-users (citizens) to find, download and execute those services.

On 8 May 2014, the project was presented to the European Commission, being the outcome very positive. The IES Cities Consortium, composed by TECNALIA, Universidad de Deusto, Zaragoza, TOSHIBA, KWMC, Bristol Council, FBK, Rovereto, Majadahonda, Geko, EuroHelp, AMIS and ZIB, will keep working hard to make sure that the project keeps progressing strongly according the work plan. Next month, i.e. June 2014, the first phase of the developed services’ pilot in the 4 mentioned European cities will start.

Analysis of the European Elections’ campaign

MORElab collaborates with the Regional Manifestos Project to analyze the political programs and the twitter campaign of the European Elections. You can follow the daily analysis of the programs on the blog and the real-time twitter analysis on the data site.The analysis will take place during the whole campaign, from the 8th to the 23th of May .

Teseo's visual analytics website released

After more than one month improving the work developed during the OpenDataDay event organised in Bilbao by our group, we have finally published the visual analyses of teseo, the spanish dabatase of doctoral dissertations maintained by the Ministry of Education.

MORElab started this project some weeks before the OpenDataDay 2014, parsing all the information available on teseo's website, to make it available for the event. On the OpenDataDay, we developed some basic analyses, which have been refined for the release of our teseo's visual analysis website (No longer available).

We encourage you to visit the different visualizations on the website, understanding how each visualization has been generated through the explaination attached to each chart. If you happen to be a data-hacker yourself, the code is available on its GitHub repository for you to improve the project.

Open Data Hack Day - Bilbao 2014

On February 21, MORElab organised the third edition of the Open Data Day in Bilbao, at Deusto's University.

The event began with three welcoming talks:

The hackathon started with the presentation of the initiatives described at our wiki, to join people on different working groups:

Visualization and publication as Linked Open Data of the Spanish Government's doctoral thesis dissertations database teseo.
Interactive maps showing historical events.
Linked Data tutorial based on Open Data Euskadi.
Basque chapter of DBpedia template mapping
Visualization and homogeneization of Deusto's Social Barometer data.

The results of the hackathon are reviewed in the event's webpage, and the code is available on GitHub.

We hope to repeat the great experience next year.

Attendance to IES Cities' SQM at Bristol

On 16 and 17 October 2013, MORElab researchers Oscar Peña and Dr. Diego López-de-Ipiña attended in Bristol to the IES Cities project’s Second Quarter Meeting. This productive work meeting enabled the partners of the project to agree on several aspects regarding the IES Cities platform which is due in May 2014. The following quarter meeting will take place at Rovereto, Italy in February 2014.

Results Open Data Hack Day 2013

The last February 22, the local event of International Open Data Day has been celebrated at University of Deusto, organized by DeustoTech - Internet. This day, about 30 activists have been working on three projects:

Basque chapter of DBpedia.
Mapping of restaurants from Basque Country to a standard ontology.
A mash-up involving measurements from air quality stations and data from polluting factories.
